I think many people would agree with me that the last couple of years have shaken our confidence in news agencies. If we’re honest, we’ve had nagging questions about mainstream news outlets for years or even decades. But the pandemic and the last Presidential race brought it to a head. It used to be that the purpose of reporting on the news was to tell us what happened. Now the purpose of the news is to tell us what to think and how to feel (usually scared or angry) about what happened.
I unplugged from every news source for a while to clear my head. When I did re-engage, I came back to WORLD News Group. WNG is a Christian organization dedicated to “sound journalism, grounded in facts and Biblical truth.” I listen to their daily news podcast, The World and Everything In It, and have found it to be excellent. They also have other long-form podcasts (Truth Be Told is a chilling 4-part show about a cult leader’s crimes and how the survivors are dealing with it 20 years later) and a daily 10-minute video news roundup geared toward kids, called World Watch. (Full disclosure, I haven’t subscribed to World Watch. The podcasts are free, and World Watch costs $6.99/mo after a 7-day free trial.)
