I often question myself about when or what God is saying to me. I so much want to be like the people that know with no question when God is talking to them. I know God talks to me but am I just not listening? Do I simply not want to hear what he's saying? My questions are not about God, but about me, about my faith.

I'm definitely not one of those people who know without question when God is talking to me! Most of the time, it becomes clear after the fact. Hindsight is 20/20, but in the moment, there's almost always a question. I've learned that, frequently, when prayerfully reading Scripture, thoughts stirred up by the passage will sort of pop into my mind, almost as if from an outside source. Those are often (but not always) later clarified and confirmed as God speaking through his Word. So, over the years, I pay attention to those thoughts, ask God about them, and wait for more.

Two great questions you can ask in prayer and then usually have thoughts to mull over later: God, what do you want me to know? And what do you want me to do? Ask God these questions, read a passage of Scripture, and then sit quietly for a few moments reflecting on the passage. When thoughts come to mind, you may not know if they're from God. But, it's a place to begin.
