The following is a guest post from Catherine Gorshe. Catherine is a member of LakeView Church, a mom of four, a Bible study leader, and a teacher in LakeView Kids ministry. She also volunteers at her kids’ school.
Exciting changes are coming to LVKids! To better accommodate our growing congregation and its children, we’re thrilled to announce that weekly Sunday school programming will begin in January. As we prepare for this big transition, it’s essential for us, as a church body, to be intentional about how we can serve. Whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or unsure where you fit in, there’s a role for everyone to play.
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gives us this powerful command: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Each of us has a part to play in this Great Commission.
Our children are our greatest mission—they are our disciples! It’s vital that we’re present and engaged in their lives. While spending time with our kids at home is crucial, our involvement in their church experience matters just as much. By actively seeking opportunities to serve at LakeView, we ensure our children enjoy rich, age-appropriate Bible programming and fellowship. It truly takes a village to create experiences that will last a lifetime. When we serve together, we also build a community that feels like family.
As Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us: “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.” Our mission for the kids and our church isn’t about obligation or guilt. It stems from the love Jesus showed us on the cross and His promise to be with us always. Yes, stepping out of our comfort zones can feel daunting, but fueled by the Gospel and the Great Commission, we strive to live on mission.
At LakeView, we aim to embody Jesus’s model of intentional mission and community. This means serving, sharing meals, being there for one another, and simply showing up. It doesn’t have to be complicated—just create space for others to be seen, heard, and cared for. Invite someone for coffee, a walk, a playdate, or even a backyard BBQ. Volunteer together at church. Ultimately, let’s welcome new families into our community. When we all share and utilize our gifts for the greater good, our children’s ministry can truly flourish.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10). As we step out in faith, God will transform us into more compassionate, generous, and loving individuals. In turn, our church culture will reflect these beautiful attributes.
Take that step of faith and embrace the opportunities God gives you to serve our children—your unique gifts are needed! Let’s commit to being an intentional community on mission together.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we seek to grow in relationship with one another, just as Jesus modeled with His disciples. We want to be intentional in caring for our children at LVKids, our pastors, staff, and families. Lord, please use us in this community at LakeView Church to bring glory to You. In Jesus' name, amen.
