“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south” (Psalm 107:2-3, NIV).
A few weeks ago, I went to my office early on Sunday morning to spend some time in prayer before our worship services. On my bookshelves, I have a section of books on the subject of prayer, and I went to grab a book of ancient and modern prayers to guide my prayer time. That’s when I noticed a tattered old book on my shelf. I’ve seen it there many times but haven’t ever read it. So, I grabbed it down to have a closer look.
The book, The Wonder of Prayer, is a collection of stories of answers to prayer. Real people who prayed real prayers and got real answers. According to the copyright page in the front, the book was published in Chicago in 1886. There I stood, holding a 137-year-old book in my hands (no wonder it was falling apart!) about how God answers prayer! As I read through some of the stories, I found them inspiring and faith-building.
It reminded me of Psalm 107, “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story…” (v. 2). Sometime, take a few minutes and read carefully through all of Psalm 107. It’s such a good story—one of my favorite Psalms!
What’s your story? How did you come to know Jesus? What has he done in your life? How has he answered your prayers? It’s important to keep telling our stories as we pass our faith on to the next generation. If you’ve got a few minutes, sit down and write out one of your stories and send it to me (andy@lakeviewfree.org).
