The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. ~ Lamentations 3:25-26 (ESV)
December is the month of Advent, a season in which Christians do something quite bizarre: We wait on purpose. No one likes to wait. We use microwaves to cook our food in minutes. We stream movies and TV shows on demand. We subscribe to Amazon Prime for free expedited shipping. When we are forced to wait, we have our trusty smartphones to distract us. Generally, we try to avoid waiting as much as possible. So, why would anyone wait on purpose?
The short answer comes from Lamentations 3:25. “The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.”
I don’t know where you find yourself this Advent season, but I am in a season of waiting on the Lord to speak. I need his direction and wisdom; I know it will come when I wait in his presence. God knows what I need. And he will speak the right word at the right time—all I need to do is make time to wait with him.
That’s why Advent is such a special time of year. It’s the month we wait on purpose—when we turn our devices off, let our words be few, and just simply exist in his presence. In my experience, some of God’s greatest blessings have come through seasons of waiting. What are you waiting for?
